ONE WORLD FINALS COUNTDOWN

Postby Jane Fossett » Thu Mar 03, 2011 1:31 pm

:-)
The blimps are up,
The Rescue Setters are out,
The Finals teams have checked in,
The Charts are published and tested,
The Wind looks good,
The sims have performed better than we could hope,
Kentrock has the Trophy,
Silber is in charge of Judging,
and Tomorrow's 2pm Opening Party will have a Disco Theme.

There are still minor issues...
but I think we're Ready To Roll. :-)

Image

two minor issues:
1. Last year we gave out two 'sportsmanship' trophies. Please let me know if you want to suggest someone.
2. Please note that Race Rock Island and the adjacent blue buoy are included together as a single race mark on the charts.
There was some confusion over this in Round 1, but it should not be an issue with the Finals courses.

Good Luck!

Today’s party’s theme is come as you are as long as you have clothing on.
The party starts at 2:00pm and kicks off with WashedUp Sideways playing live. He is a long time veteran of RL performing. His shows have a pleasant mix of genres, yet all with a hint of blues. 3:00pm the legendary Quirky Torok will be spinning tunes.

Saturday after the awards ceremony We party to the Disco beat and boogy woogy all night long.

Thank you Kentrock, Hay, Fanci, Patrick, WashedUp, Quirky... and everybody!
By the time I had to leave the party, there were so many people
it looked like the entire population of Paraguay showed up...

Or actually, since it was Friday night and free food,
it looked more like all my friends from Brooklyn :-) .

We do it all again one last time tomorrow at 8:00 SLT!
See you on the Blimps! GO ONE WORLD!!!

And what if I tell you that some of my posts, doesn't reflect a critical side, but a perfectionist side, that I can not stand mediocrity when one could do great things even easier. Do I deserve a spanking? Do not say "yes!" or assume...

Lovely courses, great racing in the finals. Congrats to the winners, and Woots to Jane and everybody else who made all this - the OW Regatta - possible.

First congratulations to all the finalists! :D Today's races were exemplary of the concept that with equal skilled sailors, the start is a substantial part of the race! Today, Bunnie show some great skill with her starts, she used a time tested strategy of position to gain advantage. The starts were all on video for judging purposes. Here are the links to them:

Race 1 Start

Race 2 Start

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI8j2HZT3bI

Race 3 Start

Race 4 Start

Enjoy.....

Videos were made with FRAPS in mouse look, a free program that intefaces nicely with SL. Is an excellent program for judging as you get the ability to re-play with protests that could go either way, of course the limitation is one tries to be outside the sim to reduce AVI presence and therfore...some perspective can be lost. But if more than one judge were using...it could be more effective.

Thank you everybody for such a great regatta
and a truly wonderful Finals!
I'm still a bit overwhelmed,
flipping through all the info from today's races,
but WOOTS! What Great Racers,
What a Great Regatta Team,
and what Super People!

I'll do a wrap-up as soon as I can catch my breath. :-)

ADD: The Finalists will all get replacement trophies with their Team names inscribed.
Today's trophies were just 'First place, Second place, Finalist.'

So much i have to say about these two months...
i'm not good at writing, but there are a few things i need to share.

My first thought goes to the team i've been so lucky to be in, and the amount of hours we spent together sharing fun and struggles. For sure the results have been rewarding and encouraging, but the biggest value i can see is how much we laughed and learned through these weeks. This is certainly due to a fortunate mix of skills and humour qualities that each of us brought into the team. Also this was unexpected as we didn't know each other well before this adventure. My deepest thanks to you Kentrock, Dunan, Seraina... i want to race with you again!!

So many great teams i have seen racing these weeks, much fairness and sportmanship. Some teams certainly proved great qualities and deserved a better result, as unlucky events hit them worse than other teams. Actually, some of my favourite skippers didn't make it to the finals, yet i could tell their qualities when conditions allowed for a smooth game... and also when not.

Among all teams, i admired Oceans the most, for the talent, fairness, team spirit and organization they showed. They made it truly a team thing from all perspectives. I'd like to dedicate my personal win to them, and to... Jacqueline Trudeau for the wicked magic she put into this racing boat :P

Now a big list of thanks :)

Jane for starting the project, making it a mix of fun and passion (with some sailing too!) for so many, and for keeping things together through difficulties and bitching.
All the RDs and judges for their caring and some impressive dedication.
The event hosts for caring about conditions at their locations.
The course designers for inventing new and never obvious race plans in the various rounds.
Dil for covering every single phase of the cup with wonderful pictures.
Diamond and Naeve for the accurate and fun live commentary (and although i could not tune in to radio commentary, it was great to have it and i am sure Q did a great job).
Hay for fiddling with her line to find new solutions useful for all.
SLCG staff for their commitment and for doing their job with style.

Ok ok, i should also mention the Lindens who certainly did something to help our enjoyment, although... considering all the contributions i listed above... i would think they should try harder... but hey, they are not sailors :P

See you all soon at sea!

On behalf of SVC-472, I'd like to thank Jane for her hard work on this tournament and making it a fun event for so many people.
I'd also like to thank my teammates: momomos Netizen, Noodleqt Exonar, Bunta Beck and nobuko Criss, for the hours we spent together in the tournament.
And thanks to the many others involved: racers, organisers, spectators..
