In Extinction a particular behavior is weakened by the consequence of not experiencing a positive condition or stopping a negative condition. For example:

A rat presses a bar in its cage and nothing happens. Neither a positive or a negative condition exists for the rat. The rat presses the bar again and again nothing happens. The rat's behavior of pressing the bar is weakened by the consequence of not experiencing anything positive or stopping anything negative.

Aha. Got it. So if we just ignore the rat (don) and show no reaction to his attacks he will soon be bored and leave SL saling alone. So we can clean up and rebuild everything he has destroyed and go on in our attempts to make SL better.
Unfortunately most of us are no coldhearted scientists but people. People tend not to sit on their asses and just sit stuff out and take blow after blow. People have hurt feelings and react with counterattacks. That's just human nature. We're not sitting things out in the basement like a hurricane or stuff. Don is no force of nature, he's not inevitable. More like a mosquito, if it lands on my skin and starts to suck I swat it.
